Clinical Director

Part-time (Minimum 22.5hrs per week – Maximum 30 hrs per week)
£45,000 FTE
 

STARS Dorset is a growing and dynamic, independent charity providing specialist support to those who have been affected by sexual violence and domestic abuse.  We have gained a great reputation locally and with commissioners for delivering positive outcomes for the people we support.  Due to the retirement of the current post holder in Spring 2023, we are seeking a Clinical Director.

 

The role:
This is an exciting time to join us at STARS-Dorset as a Senior Manager. As our Clinical Director you will be responsible for the clinical safety of our services. You will bring expertise and offer inspiring leadership, putting clients at the heart of all you do. Key responsibilities will be:-

 

  • Working with our CEO and Board of Trustees to shape and deliver the Vision, Mission and Aims of STARS-Dorset
  • Developing relationships with partner agencies, health partners and commissioners
  • Contributing to a programme of continuous quality improvement for all staff, clinical placement students and volunteers
  • Providing Clinical Supervision for our team of Clinical Supervisors
  • Assisting in the development of new clinical services that respond to demand and best practice

 

About You:
We are looking for a dedicated leader with clinical experience, drive and passion, who can organise and prioritise their workload whilst empowering the team to facilitate change. You will be a team player and possess excellent communication skills to inspire and drive forward creative and innovative ways of working.


To join us as our Clinical Director you will need:

  • Experience of working at senior management level and liaising closely with a Board of Trustees
  • Accreditation as a counsellor or psychotherapist with BACP /UKCP or equivalent
  • A Clinical Supervisor qualification
  • Knowledge of Trauma and Herman’s Trauma Model
  • Experience of working therapeutically in a relevant field, understanding the impact of childhood trauma and abuse
  • Clinical governance and oversight experience
  • Experience of service development and successful change management
  • Experience delivering training and CPD
  • Relevant management qualification and experience
  • To be willing to work outside normal hours to ensure continuity of service delivery
  • Experience of Safeguarding vulnerable adults, children and young people

37hrs Per Week

STARS is a pan-Dorset charity that offers one to one support, free of charge, for anyone of any age or gender who lives, works, or studies in Dorset and has experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their life.

Who you are ……?

STARS DORSET is expanding and require innovative, caring people to grow with the organisation. As an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) , you will be part of our Children, Young People and Family Service. This is a new post and your passion to support, inform and guide children and young people through their journey in the criminal justice system or are facing  difficulties with their journey to recovery will contribute to STARS DORSET’s high level of service delivery and to making a difference in someone’s life and their family when they most need it.

You will connect with our clients to inform, support and guide through appointments, phone calls and sessions. You will manage a caseload and work with clients, families, and stakeholders to ensure the best practice and outcomes. Additionally, you will work with various areas of the organisation whilst managing your own diary and will serve as an ambassador for STARS DORSET.

You will work either out of STARS DORSET Poole or Dorchester office.

STARS Dorset is a growing and dynamic independent charity, providing specialist support to those living, working or studying in Dorset, who have been affected by sexual violence and domestic abuse.  We have gained a great reputation locally and with commissioners for delivering positive outcomes for the people we support.  The charity has experienced exponential growth over the past 3 years, and whilst we have a strong and diverse Board, we are seeking to further strengthen the Board to ensure we continue with our ambitious strategy for the future with excellent governance and an inclusive culture, helping to sustain our future.

If you have skills and experience in the fields of Law, Clinical Governance, Marketing, Media/PR, Commissioning or Lived Experience, we'd be really happy to hear from you!

Being a Trustee of STARS Dorset is an exciting and fulfilling roles.  The most effect Boards are those with a rich and diverse range of backgrounds, experiences and skills.  A Trustee’s role is to ensure the charity fulfils its duty to its beneficiaries through its vision, mission, aims and values.  There are five keys principals to Charity Governance expected from charity Trustees:

  • Support-encourage and enable
  • Stretch-challenge and improve
  • Scrutiny-examine, hold to account
  • Stewardship-guard the assets
  • Strategy-make big decisions

What to expect from being a Trustee:

As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will be expected to attend monthly Board meetings, (Hybrid)  with some ad-hoc meetings, as well as a chance to attend away days with the team. The Boards is currently developing its sub-committees and this will involve regular meetings (currently monthly). STARS Dorset is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charities Commission. Trustees are accountable to the Charity Commission.

As a Trustee, your role is to ensure that STARS Dorset complies with charity law, develops and implements an appropriate and effective strategy, and sets and keeps to a suitable budget. With your fellow trustees, you are responsible for appointing the Chief Executive and monitoring their performance.

And have the following qualities:

  • commitment to STARS Dorset
  • integrity, strategic vision and good/independent judgement
  • a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee
  • ability to take part in collective decisions for the good of STARS Dorset
  • good communication skills
  • tact and diplomacy
  • willingness to speak their mind and listen to the views of others
  • an ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • understanding of the legal responsibilities of a trustee (training on this will be given as part of the induction process)
